Your pursuit of luxury and technological superiority has culminated in the Veranda Vertex Series. This video segment will get you better acquainted with the helm used on all Vertex Series luxury pontoons including the RC (rear chaise), RFL (rear facing lounge), VLB (Versa Lounge Bench), and VLC (Versa Lounge Captain’s Chair).

As you approach the helm, located midship on the starboard side, you will notice the fiberglass console with a French seam vinyl-wrapped dash, windscreen, and a large storage compartment underneath it, which you can open by pulling on the round chrome handle. This large storage compartment is ideal for storing a cooler, inflatable, or PFDs.

The console and “Hise Rise” hydraulic helm chair sit on top of the elevated SeaDek-lined helm with RGB lighting. Several small chrome LED lights to line the platform, are controlled on the dash, and help illuminate the midship flooring. The SeaDek lined platform provides a cool cushion even on the warmest of days.

Refer to our separate video on adjusting your chair.

We are going to begin reviewing the dash starting on the left side with the various buttons that control lighting functions and the horn on your Vertex Series Veranda. Understanding what each does will allow for proper, safe use of the vessel.

From top to bottom:

  • DOCKING LIGHTS turns on the LED headlights located on bow panels and should only be used when docking, not while operating.
  • COURTESY LIGHTS turn on their white LED on the top of the console.
  • ANCHOR LIGHTS turn on the white navigational bimini light.
  • NAVIGATIONAL LIGHTS turn on the green and red navigational lights on the bow.
  • The red HORN button will sound the horn, located under the bow deck.

The Vertex Series comes standard with an Infinity Bluetooth Stereo. Some of you have upgraded to the JL High Output Audio Stereo Package. Please refer to the separate videos on how to use each.

The 3-spoke designer steering wheel extends out towards the captain and can be adjusted by lifting the level underneath the steering wheel column. All Vertex Series is equipped with UFlex Hydraulic Tilt Steering, however, you may have upgraded to Power Assist Hydraulic Steering. If that is the case, please refer to the separate video for instructions on using it.

Note the small, black plastic cap with a chrome ring around it further up on the dashboard beside the windshield. This is the hydraulic steering fluid reservoir, should you need to replenish its supply that is used in conjunction with the UFlex Hydraulic Tilt Steering. If you opted for the Power Assist Hydraulic Steering, your fluid reservoir and pump will be located in the aft section of your boat, underneath one of the seat cushions.

Refer to our separate video on how to use your Simrad GO7 chart plotter, located in the center of the dash.

Refer to our separate video on how to use the in-dash RGB lighting controller, which is located to the right of the steering wheel column.

Below the lighting controller on the dash is a series of important toggle switches. Starting on the left you will see:

  • Master Power 1, which turns on the boat’s main electrical system.
  • Master Power 2 will turn on the accessories on your Vertex.
  • Bilge turns on the power to the auto-bilge pump, located inside the center toon in-floor storage compartment.

Master Power 1 powers the boat’s main electrical system.

Master Power 2 powers all the other accessories.

Lower down on that same panel on the dash is 12V and Aux USB port with a rubber cap over each. These can be used to power an electric air pump, connect to the audio system, or as a power source to charge your devices.

Note the small, black plastic cap beside the windshield on the top of the console. This is the hydraulic steering fluid reservoir, should you need to replenish its supply.

Power Bimini Up and Down toggle controls the powered bimini. Refer to our separate video on how to use your powered bimini for instructions on how to operate this on your Vertex Series.

The Yamaha ignition key switch and throttle are located on the starboard side of the helm. Please refer to the separate video on how to operate each.

The small push button located along the vertical part of the console next to your right knee is the drink cooler button. Press it once and it will turn on the refrigerated cup holder located on the right side of the console between the throttle and dash.

The fuse box on all Vertex Series is located underneath the console.

Finally, all Vertex Series include a tilt-out trash receptacle located at midship on the back of the chaise lounge on the port side. You can open it up by pulling on the round chrome handle.

You now have a thorough understanding of the various components that make up the helm and what each does. We value your time and investment in a Veranda Luxury Pontoon. See you on the water!

Welcome back to the Veranda Luxury Pontoons owners manual, today we are going to show you the various features of the interior, or “playpen,” as some people refer to it, specifically those within the front area of the pontoon.

Let’s take a look at the stainless quick release bumper hardware, made of marine-grade stainless steel that holds up to the harsh marine environment. Located along the top of the starboard and port rails, it eliminates the need for repetitive tying and untying and allows you to quickly and easily release and stow the bumpers when the boat is underway. Depending upon your pontoon, you should have 2-4 logo’d rubber bumpers along with white braided rope include in your boat, stored either inside the center-toon in-floor storage or underneath one of the seats. The hinge snaps into the base and stays attached to the bumper line when separated. You will notice another set of stainless quick release bumper hardware located in the aft of the boat as well for protecting the stern of your pontoon when moored.

Care & Maintenance

The beautiful powder-coated rails offered on all Veranda Luxury Pontoons are fabricated in our sub-assembly department in Malvern, Arkansas. The individual rails are built per order.

The rail pieces are cut out of 1” tube aluminum, welded on jigs to form the fence sections, and powder coated to provide aesthetic beauty and long-lasting durability. Customers can choose from black, copper, gray, silver, or white.

Next, we insert 0.40 gauge thick aluminum panels into each section of the fence. It is helpful to note that the industry standard is .032 or even less, so you are getting increased strength and durability. They are crimped in place and riveted for added structural soundness and to reduce vibrations when running. The last step involves bending the corners to match the curve of the interior furniture they will be placed against. Available metallic fence panel colors include burgundy, bronze, champagne, black, indigo blue, pearl white, and charcoal.

The combination of panel color and powder-coated rails gives personality to your Veranda Luxury Pontoons. The fence design varies based on the series you purchased, but the same sound construction process is applied to all to ensure a lifetime of enjoyment. The new Relax/Fish Series Refresh introduced in 2021 brought about a more stylish, sweeping look to the rails, and added the opportunity to further customize your pontoon with the all-new 2-tone fence panels, which placed black panels on the aft fence and the color of your choice running from midship to the forward area of the fencing.

Our VP and Vertex Series include stainless steel inserts on the side panels and front gate.

Another new enhancement introduced in 2021 was the Versa Lounge exterior styling, available on VP, Vertex, and Relax Series. The new style includes a sweeping aft top rail design and provides improved aft visibility due to the lower overall fence height and plexiglass insert with an etched Veranda Luxury Pontoons logo.

Before we can begin to point out the key features of your Veranda Luxury Pontoon, we feel it’s best to first cover some of the basic nautical terms, so you can understand the jargon we use throughout these videos. These terms are also helpful to know when talking to other boaters. Like any pastime, pontoon boating has a distinct culture and special language. While the jargon and insider language of other hobbies and purists may be quirky curiosities, nautical language has a specific purpose and is vital for clear, accurate communication on the open water. The sheer number may be overwhelming for the novice, but picking up a few important nautical terms is a necessary component of proper pontoon boat operation. The following are some of the most common and important terms that every pontoon boat owner should know:

Aft: The back section of your pontoon boat, toward the direction of the stern.

Bilge: The lowest area of a boat where excess water gathers and is subsequently pumped out with proper equipment.

Bow: The front-most area of your pontoon boat.

Burdened: A burdened vessel is a vessel that must yield to another craft.

BWI: Acronym for Boating While Intoxicated. BWIs are the number one cause of boating fatalities in the United States and result in the same penalties on the water as land in most states.

Deck: The floor of your pontoon boat.

Forward: The front section of your pontoon boat, toward the direction of the bow.

Head-On: An event where two vessels approach each other head-on. Neither vessel has the right of way and both should usually pass each other on their port sides.

Helm: The directional control station on your pontoon boat is akin to an automobile’s steering wheel.

Logs: Cylindrical pontoons that provide buoyancy for pontoon boats.

Navigation Lights: All pontoon boats must display lights during nighttime travel to show the size, type, and direction of the pontoon boat.

Making Way: A vessel that is both underways and propelled by an engine or sails.

Mayday: A term used over marine radio frequencies to denote a boat with an extreme emergency, such as a fire or sinking.

Midship: The middle of your pontoon boat.

Not Making Way: A vessel that is adrift, not anchored, and moving due to currents or the wind.

Outboard: A configuration where both the engine and drive are on the exterior of the boat.

Overtaking: An event where one faster boat approaches from a slower boat’s rear. In this situation, the slower craft has the right-of-way.

PFD: Stands for Personal Flotation Device. Law requires that every pontoon boat have at least one PFD per passenger.

Pontoon Boat: A multi-hull vessel that uses hollow cylinders for buoyancy.

Port: The left-hand side of your pontoon boat.

Prop: The pontoon boat’s propeller that provides forward motion.

Restricted Visibility: Rain, snow, or other weather condition that reduces visibility.

Right-of-Way: When encountering another craft, your pontoon boat with right-of-way can continue with its course and speed.

Safe Speed: The maximum speed that a pontoon boat can undertake to ensure no collisions with other vessels.

Stability: A pontoon boat’s potential to handle weight shifts from side to side.

Starboard: The right-hand side of your pontoon boat.

Stern: The rearmost area of your pontoon boat.

Throttle: A hand lever(s) that controls speed and forward or reverse motion.

Underway: A boat in motion, either by deliberate direction or by drifting on a current.

Vessel: Every sort of vehicle, including pontoon boats, whose main mode of transportation involves water.

Visual Distress Signals: Non-electronic signals, such as flags or flares, to draw attention to a vessel.

Wake: The waves that are a result of forward motion of your pontoon boat.

Whistle Signals: Audible signals, made by air or electric horn blasts, to communicate between vessels. All power-driven vessels, such as pontoon boats, are required to use these signals.

Water Stage: The water level and depth of rivers. This varies based on location and season. Also known as a river’s “gage.”
